About the Author
Like Milk (Carrie Dean): I’m a ‘mature’ film studies student living in Cambridge, UK. I’m not sure where my obsession and love for film came from, but it was possibly born out of boredom. There was no pinnacle film that caused it all but the directors Wong Kar Wai, Federico Fellini, and Jean-Luc Godard made a strong impression on me and helped me discover a whole new world of cinema.
Other than film I have many interests, photography, plenty of reading, drinking coffee, as many creative hobbies as I can handle (I’ll have a go at anything), and spending an unusually long time asleep.
There might be more, but I think some things should remain a secret. Pst, I last went to a multiplex cinema in 2004.
Favourites
Although it is complicated and near impossible to make lists of favourite films I’ve decided to put down the following 10 as examples of films I love are would recommend strongly to all.
- 8½ (Federico Fellini; 1963)
- Dr. Strangelove (Stanley Kubrick; 1964)
- Breathless (Jean-Luc Godard; 1960)
- Chungking Express (Kar Wai Wong; 1994)
- Sunrise (F.W. Murnau; 1927)
- Persona (Ingmar Bergman; 1966)
- City Lights (Charles Chaplin; 1931)
- The General (Clyde Bruckman, Buster Keaton; 1927)
- La Notte (Michelangelo Antonioni; 1961)
- La Jetee (Chris Marker; 1962)
But 10 really is too small a list! So many great films and great directors are missing!
My top five directors are the following:
- Federico Fellini
- Jean-Luc Godard
- Wong Kar Wai
- Michelangelo Antonioni
- F. W. Murnau
Photography
Other than films, I mostly adore photography, predominantly film photography. I like to collect cameras of all shapes and sizes and most people will comment ‘Why do you need so many cameras’, for which I have no real answer. Here are some of my favourite photos I’m taken.
